Community Art - The Tree of Life image is in the Unity Centre in Chester and represents the welcome, shelter and support offered to people from across the world who now live in Chester and the surrounding areas. In response to a call out for someone to create a mural in the new community cafe, I submitted some sample designs and this was the one that was chosen. The children, who use the centre with their parents, were very keen to have their hands painted to create the handprint/leaves. Many of them had very little English yet the shared activity overcame any language barrier. The furniture was made and painted by some of the refugee fathers who were also very willing to craft and demonstrate their skills. The cafe is now used and enjoyed by members of the multicultral hub.
