Project summary:

Carmela is an emerging artist and practicing sculptor, currently undertaking a BA in Fine Art at Birmingham School of Art. Her practice is formed from personal traumas stored in the body, often acted out in compulsive repetitions through processes of labour. Carmela hopes to undertake a masters in Art Therapy after completing her BA.

Alongside her current practice, Carmela is co-founder and ZEST curator of Birmingham based arts collective Round Lemon. With work shown at Blakesley Hall, Birmingham Museum’s Gas Hall, Centrala and Birmingham School of Art, Carmela marked her first solo exhibition ‘Rite of Passage’ at Art Rooms Kings Heath in 2019.

Carmela is also a practicing freestyle dance teacher and aspiring adjudicator.
