Project summary:

” …. nature is wiggly….

everything wiggles.

the outline of the hills,

the shapes of the trees,

the way the wind brushes the grass….

clouds

tracks of streams…..

it all wiggles.”

i bridge between standing mindfully in a wood to wrangling code.  i'm excited by what possibility is nearby.

my practice is still evolving as i learn more about myself.

what do i have happening ?  i'm in a rolling commission with the derby silk mill museum to document their museum of making development.  the format chosen to do this is non linear documentary.  i also facilitate sessionson the public programme for the musuem.  in january 2018 i facilitated three sessions of activities part of the drawn from teh land richard long artist rooms exhibition.  in a voluntary capacity i was part fo the team to set up stone ellipse.

the museum of making at the derby silk mill will have a schools programme underpined by steam - science technology engineering art and maths.  i'm transferring skills learnt as a forest school leader into the steam environment.

i have a digital playground made possible by needing to host the non linear projects.

i like to make yet want there to be nothing to show for this.

like brian duffy - the work is the statement.

when i graduated the financial establishments had shown their hands and funding was widely seen as being cut.  undetered i decided that even if there wasn't funding there would be ways of doing the things i wanted to do.

this meant there wasn't vast amounts of accolades for what i did but i was doing what i wanted to do.

i kept a blog for a year in which i explored making submissions to opportunities.  i discovered that the work i did that year was of a result of face to face conversations.  it's only now in 2018 i am beginning to have some success with written submissions.

i learnt the value in connecting what you do with others.  as shy person this has been an eara i've had to put a lot of effort into.

i accept that i live at a time when climeate change and peak oil have become mainstream topics and watch while as species we negotiate with ourselves about what all this means.

i'm a bit compulsive with data.  i record things - i photograph things.

i try to convince our children to recycle, to keep showers to about 10 minute duration and to plan what goes into the oven once its up to temperature.  i watch as the necessary teenage rejection of elders is played out and continue to empahsise the importance of keeping a shower duration to 10 minutes.   i do all this because there is still choice.

i'm developing walks in a wood.

i like to carve and whittle - i've led a workshop on how to make a skulk of foxes.  i volunteer in my local park, helping to maintain the woodland.

the a-n platform is where i keep blogs about my making / art practice.  i find writing posts on this platform a good place to reflect upon the work happening and am sometimes quoted in tweets by the a-n blogs twitter account.

playtime is at http://www.andrewmartynsugars.me/project/time-place-space/

i'm dsylexic,  live in derbyshire with my partner, 3 children, and a dog  called florence.
