    By Robert Smithson, 1969-72. No visual words but there is an acompanying soundtrack. In the photographs and soundtrack Smithson describes the hotel’s sprawling accumulation of structures – lobby and guest rooms, garages and dance hall, swimming pool and outbuildings – in their various stages of disuse, decline and decrepitude. At the time Smithson’s travelogue was prepared, parts of the hotel were brand new, some were being repaired or demolished and still others were in ruins, almost completely reclaimed from the Chapas landscape.
