Engage Artist

Amanda Griffiths

Year:
2018 - 19
Project summary:

My initial plan is that I would like to work mainly in hand built ceramics but using sculpture, drawing and painting to support the process. I would like to set myself the challenge of revisiting techniques I have not used for a long time, like incorporating thrown pots. I do not have a wheel or kiln in my own workshop, so being able to use these facilities would mean that I could pursue my research into trial and error, versus the appearance of effortlessness.

The AA2A opportunity at Hope would enable me to start a fresh, a body of work and open up a different direction for me, I would like to meet up with the other artists who are on the AA2A programme in other institutions to discuss our work. I would also like to be able to get back into exhibiting my ceramics again; I have previously exhibited with the Liverpool Biennial Independents.

I need this time and space to grow in confidence, allowing me to pursue a redirected career path. This would be an ideal chance to pick up where I left off when I completed my MA in Creative Practice, 2010. I am now free to have a change in career direction since recently leaving teaching in a secondary school and would make the most of this contact within a familiar university setting.
