Project summary:

"The site specific installations Ali Reed creates guide the viewer to a realisation of their surroundings. Due to today’s busy society we rarely have time to stop and appreciate what is around us. Therefore, Reed aims to provide the viewer with the simple opportunity to stop and revel in their current state of being. Observing the artwork provides an insight into the space, as all aspects of the artwork are referential to features of the space, often interacting with the actual architecture of the site. The outcome can vary widely across each installation as the artwork discusses a different space each time; this is what makes them inherently site specific.

The installations consist of laser cut sculptural pieces often accompanied by wall drawings. The sculptural aspects are built up into formations which are an abstracted interpretation of the space. The wall drawings contain a vantage point giving the particular shape a whole variety of perspectives, only one of which makes sense to the mind, enticing the viewer to meander around the space and discover the shape. The artist’s aim is for the viewer to see the artwork and then have the desire to go on and see the actual space and endeavour to find the particular features which are shown in the work. Therefore, the artwork also lies in the exploration by the viewer of the space, which is prompted by the tangible aspect of the work to promote the extremely simple revelation of where you are currently situated."
