Project summary:

My present painting (working with transparent fabric supports) requires practical, fabric industry development.

a) Find ways to create a more invigorating, gestural painting/drawing series of actions with the application of paint upon such a delicate, fragile surface with greater physical scale.

b) Re-address the transparent properties of the fabric itself; the see-through nature of silk, it’s layering prospects and characteristics when dyes, stains, pigments and paints are applied. Or how these facades and draperies are suspended when hung.

With the AA2A scheme, support, I am looking for a platform of time to experiment and test dye-methods, mark marking, staining and dying, plus applying, embedding colour with transparent fabrics (silk, nylon), for painting. Working under the umbrella of a textiles department, using textile approaches and industry facilities to research alternative methods for layering, tinting, building up washes of colour on transparent fabrics for painting. Plus, share the research outcomes with new student audiences, the community supporting the career development and the public.
