Project summary:

I am an illustrator and printmaker who is interested in narrative and storytelling. I make single and sequential works and produce a range of outcomes from single prints to books.

After graduating in Printed Textiles I worked in the industry for four years as a colourist and designer for an Italian fabric mill. However, I missed the print room. I began developing my own work and taught myself how to linocut, eventually swapping textiles for paper as my medium of choice.

I feel I have a lot of potential to develop my ideas and art practice by combining my present skill set in linocut with my previous specialism in screen printing and employment as a colourist. I plan to create multi-layered imagery, applying different print processes and working with a more varied palette to provide a greater depth and scope to my work. I want to challenge my working methods by combining laborious linocuts with more spontaneous mark making, as well as experimenting with layering, scale and registration.

My aim with the AA2A residency is to become more proficient in printmaking in order to produce more accomplished print outcomes. Over the next seven months I would like to produce a body of work that reflects my exploration into extending the possibilities of linocut in contemporary illustration.
