Coverage of the 2021 Day of Action to Remember Nature in Launceston Town Square.     On 4th November every other year since the artist's passing, I have responded to Gustaz Metzger's call to all artists to Remember Nature on 4th November, the anniversary of his original call out, to convene an interactive and creative event for creatives and the public to Remember Nature.  This year it will take place at The Whitaker in the Rossendale Valley.  Contact me if you would like to help make it happen and do come along!

The Degree Show is extensive, with installations set inside three buildings on the University of Central Lancashire's Preston Campus.

Join us in Cambridge for a showcase of work by students graduating from art, design, film and performing arts degrees. Connected by purpose but distinct in voice, our 2023 graduates are using their platform to amplify issues and challenge preconceptions across themes such as society, identity and the environment. The Showcase takes place in the Ruskin Gallery, on ARU's Cambridge campus, and surrounding areas. There's no need to book, just drop in.  

Buckinghamshire New University’s annual Art & Design Summer Show will be open to the public from 16 June - 21 June 2023. Every year, students from the School of Arts and College of Science and Engineering celebrate their time at University by showcasing their work at an end of year Degree Show. The Show is a fantastic opportunity for potential employers, friends, family, industry and members of the public to see exciting creations by the next generation of artists, designers, creators and makers from Derby. The annual School of Design and Creative Arts Degree Show returns. The Degree Show is such an exciting and valuable event for students, staff, and visitors; it is a culmination of so much hard work, and a chance for students to celebrate, share and exhibit their final year projects. We are pleased to be able to offer an in-person and digital exhibition across the range of Design and Creative Arts courses and present the amazing creativity and rising talent our students have. The shows are open over several days, and include additional events and activities as listed below.

A group show organised by UAL's Climate Emergerncy Network  to mark Earth Day 2023. Phil showed two works: The Second Elizabethan Age – all that glistens is not gold The Second Elizabethan Age has just drawn to a close in the UK.  Elizabeth ll’s 70 year reign coincided with unprecedented growth in prosperity (even if increasingly unequal), but this has come at a cost – a sustained rise in carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere from 310ppm in 1953 to 419ppm in August 2022. This work makes this cost visible as a starting point for wider discussion and action. This work raises questions about whose golden age the last 70 years have been? And what has the cost been, both in terms of climate change and in widening inequalities between the western democracies and everyone else and within those democracies where income gaps have widened enormously. Artist Phil Barton uses the Granary Square fountains to visually represent how sea levels are rising by programming them at present and future high tide heights. This dramatic artwork highlights the perils of rising sea levels and the extent to which land will be lost to the waves if temperatures continue to rise. The Waters Are Coming in action The four arrays of fountains will be programmed with the outer jets at current levels of 40cm high and the central jets at the predicted 2123 height of 200cm. The ground has been marked into continents with 20 global cities and island nations at risk of flooding marked and lit. Echoing the daily passage of the tides, the fountains will move around the ‘world’, emphasising the fate of low lying populations if net zero isn’t reached within 20 years. As our end of year exhibition for second year Fine Art at YSJ we have developed the show titled 'Essence' which showcases our courses collective works. A multimdeia display of excellent and unique works, Essence represents a collective exploration of our emerging practices as young Fine Artists navigating academia and creativity.

Our annual Open Exhibition aims to be demonstrate the wide range of artwork being produced throughout Blackpool and the Fylde Coast today. In line with Grundy Art Gallery’s founding principles of showing the ‘art of the day’ and echoing Blackpool’s motto of ‘progress’, we have requested that artworks submitted must have been created within the last 12 months and that the artwork has never been shown at Grundy Art Gallery before. Bringing together works produced in a wide range of media, from painting, drawing, photography and sculpture, the annual Open Exhibition always provides viewers with an exciting and diverse viewing experience.

Part of The Lowry's EDIT series, Conversations Series III: Narratives is the culmination of a summer 2022 residency at Venture Arts. The resulting exhibition shows what happened when 12 artists, some with and some without learning disabilities, spent 20 weeks together exploring how their own personal heritage may be connected and influencing each other's own artistic style and process. A collaborative approach to making art has been at the core of the residency, with the artists having taken inspiration from the overwhelming style and character of the club in which the residency was run in Whalley Range, Manchester. There are also huge comedy, reggae and supper club influences of group idols such as Sid James, Sparrow Martin and Julie London. I've been invited by 108 Fine Art in Harrogate to exhibit the work created in my aa2a artist residency. This is a joint exhibition with another artist Siobhan McLaughlin, who is a fine artist based in Edinburgh and who has recently completed an artist residency in St. Ives

Within the Second Year Fine Art Winter Showcase, I displayed a body of work which I had produced throughout the semester whilst exploring ceramics, lo-fi, and natural materials in an attempt to explore tactile engagement within artistic practice and specifically art exhibitions. I displayed these sculptural objects for interaction with the public and encouraged my peers to handle the works.
