Project summary:

The ideas of multiples have always interested me as an artist. The psychological elements of the self As separate personalities can be seen in my painting ‘Muliebrity’. This word means the various parts of the female ego. We all show different personas in accordance with our environment and others we interact with.

Artists have endeavoured to visualise, making her object. With no expansion except as site for patriarchal stimulus according to age and current cultural views. The interplay between artist and female nude is shifted when creator is woman. The inherent discourse is challenged. The ‘site’ is no longer nude but naked, and questioning. Making her the source of external dialogue.

As artist I have demonstrated this interplay by portraying my own physicality in its full imperfect ideal of feminine beauty. This isolation of subject matter constricts further analysis of woman as site for the determined biological imperative. I hope to open myself as an artist to the basic practice of looking with fresh eyes at the female form. Producing a collection of drawing and paintings. These will form the visual source for a large scale painting with multiple figures.

Aesthetically this provides interests and asks why do we as viewers need to be confronted by more than one nude within a single visual plain. This returns one to consider the psychological characteristics of the multiple persona (of woman). Look at Ingres' Turkish bath or the haunting imagery of Paul Delvaux.
