Project summary:

At present I am involved in research regarding an artistic collaboration with artist Eleanor Wood, who is currently living and working in the USA. Our initial research is concerned with 'differences and similarities', 'distance and suspension' as well as the 'construction of duplicates'. Still in the early stages of this collaboration, I feel a place on the AA2A scheme could have significant impetus on my work in general, as well as on my collaborative project. My objective would be to create a body of resolved drawings which would be included in an exhibition of collaboratively made works in Southern California.

Much of my work concentrates on the ambiguity of our existence and the notion of suspension. Working predominantly with paper, my drawings evolve through the process of repetitive mark making. I like to pierce, inscribe, emboss and construct layers which are, in part, meticulously removed. I would like to explore and develop new techniques of drawing by experimenting with materials which evoke the notions of unravelling, decoding, replication and imitation. A substantial part of my research would concentrate on life drawing and use the body as a tool to farther explore the concept of suspension. The human body often acts as a catalyst in the development of my work and having the opportunity to use the drawing workshop in this way would be of paramount importance to this line of investigation.

Access to the many facilities would be extremely advantageous as would the comparison in working environment. Although highly productive, I often work alone and feel this juxtaposition would have an exciting effect on my work. Observing and talking to art students who engage in similar/different disciplines and procedures would also be invaluable. I feel this interaction would stimulate ideas concerning the importance of individual creativity as well as highlighting the potential in collaboration.
