Project summary:

This is the beginning of a photographic project based around the Italian Grand Tour. The Grand Tour was the 18th century cultural movement that brought artists and noblemen to visit and sojourn in certain Mediterranean countries. Inspired and fascinated by Italy, artists and philosophers made it the subject of countless works of literary and visual art.

The project will be split in two parts; when able to travel to Italy I will revisit and re-interpret the fictionalised landscapes endlessly represented by artists such as Claude and Poussin, that came to symbolise the 'Arcadia'. While in England (and as part of the Artists Access to Art Colleges scheme) I will visit a number of Stately Homes in Norfolk that were especially built to host the huge collections of work of arts bought by their owners during travels on The Grand Tour.
