Project summary:

I have always been interested in narrative art, making up stories and illustrating them when I was younger – through working on the Masters programme and making artists books for one of the modules I realised that all my work is bound to this desire to tell stories, make fantasy realms and alternative realities. “The adventures of Shorty” I remember when I was about 6 years old (now lost in an attic) was the first I recall. I have therefore returned to a passion that I enjoyed when I was a young girl.

I am inspired by the darker elements of history and the work of Francisco de Goya, William Blake, Hieronymus Bosch and Franz Kafka.

I am making a dark, comic horror novel about the grisly characters that populate an 1850’s pub and its neighbouring curiosity museum. A battle of wits ensues when the Devil pays a visit. I will (hopefully) be using Salford’s library and lecture programme for purposes of research and the print facilities to produce images for my novel.

I’ve been a student at Salford University on both the B.A and M.A programmes and I hope to be able to share my practice and experience with the students.
