Project summary:

Working at Leeds College of Art it was my intention using screenprinting to engage with process, a process that allowed the opportunity to relinquish an element of control, facilitating both chance and intuition in the production of my work, allowing the image to emerge through intuitive decision making and risk. Screenprinting facilitates the layering and overlayering of images in such a way that construction by deconstruction becomes the predominate feature of my approach. At the same time linking such methods of working with the spatiality of the two dimensional surface and the contemplative and reflective images associated with postmodernist abstraction.

It is the work of Callum Innes that has a strong influence on my aims and outcomes in printmaking. It is with particular reference to his statement " my starting point is a desire to create that is somehow natural, that exists in its own right, holds a platform for itself" that provides me with my direction. In pursuance of this I produced screenprinted images on both paper and canvas with different outcomes.

The opportunity to pursue my ideas has been extremely valuable and rewarding and an opportunity not to be missed. Finally the staff in the printmaking unit were extremely helpful and supportive making the experience enjoyable.
