Project summary:

My time on AA2A has given me the opportunity to explore the photo intaglio etch process beyond my expectations. I have developed a complete body of work ready for exhibition 22nd May – 9th Sept 08 at The Artroom Gallery, Garstang, entitled Bowland, Inside and Out. The idea for this work, evolved from the significant rise in interest of how we fashion and style our homes, dictated by the many home and garden magazines on our retail shelves. My objective was to use images from these magazines as a starting point. Then push the boundaries of the print process to create depth, individuality and interest beyond the glossy magazine image. The process became priority whilst I explored the possibilities of the imagon film; layering, crinkling and experimenting with controlled open bite. I learnt new skills in screen-printing, which I have included within my finished prints. My work also became more personal as I included layers of text, recounting memories and feelings associated with life’s experiences. Support from technical staff, interacting with students and fellow AA2A colleagues helped me to ground my ideas and develop my work to a professional level. The time on the AA2A scheme has provided me with not only a body of work but images to create my own website (coming soon) and a new portfolio to present to galleries. I can only speak highly of the AA2A scheme, as an artist it is a valuable opportunity to develop ideas and acquire the skills for a more professional practice.
