Project summary:

I am a multi media contemporary artist based in Doncaster and exhibiting nationally.

I have developed a way of working, which is driven by a passion to search out and piece together fragments of information which record the passage of human life through time. There is a haphazard and fragile nature to these surviving elements, which in themselves do not form a narrative, but raise questions in the mind of the viewer about what has been lost in time and space.

I look back at a crumbling school exercise book, which triggers searching thoughts about a distant period of time of which I have little recollection. It is this searching in the empty spaces of my mind that drives me rather than instant recall.

I am interested in the distortion of reality, the fragmentation, and the fantasy that occurs as we deconstruct and restructure memories with the passing of time”.

The process of experimentation of the work is very important to me and it would be helpful to me to develop a process of critical feedback with students and staff.

I propose to use the facilities at Doncaster College to enable me to experiment with the process of combining images from drawing, print and photography.

By using these “traditional processes” in a contemporary way perhaps by using a variety of materials perhaps imbued with elements of the subject matter I hope to make work which works on a variety of levels.

I cannot yet determine the outcomes; however I am interested in the prospect of building containers and making books and have recently attended a bookbinding workshop.

Another influential factor is that I am attending an autumn workshop in Cyprus from 7th-28th October 2009 in order to experiment with new ways of working.
