Jayne Simpson
Originally a Fine Art graduate, I have been a teacher in Further Education and Sixth Form colleges for the past nine years.
Last year I took the opportunity to become freelance and I have worked as an Independent Educational Art Consultant as well as focusing on my own work, I have taken inspiration from the Landscape, the human form and worked through Drawings and Paintings but also some ideas of 'the journey' or memories have developed from Photography into Print – mainly etchings.
The use of the Print Studio at UCLAN, as a member of Artlab, has been the biggest utility in developing my ideas and being able to explore a wider range of media. This essentially has led to this application. Having access to such facilities over a longer period would provide the appropriate environment, resources and feedback, which is unavailable to me in my normal workspace. Hopefully it would allow for dialogue and critique of my development and work produced.
I intend to produce and explore a series of Prints – Collagraphs, Etchings and possibly Lithographs – these will represent my daughters clothing – clothes I have put away and saved. They are the metaphors that represent growing, the passing of time, 'the journey' of parenthood and the memories which remain.
The work produced would represent the paradox of the growth of unconditional love and protection and of having to let go.
A placement on the Scheme would be an excellent opportunity in a formal setting to explore, investigate, be productive and re-assess the outcomes of my professional practice.
