Previous AA2A Artist

Edmund Goubert

Year:
2007-08
Project summary:

During my AA2A placement I was the recipient of the Ip-art Award for Visual Arts. Awarded annually, as part of Ipswich's yearly arts festival, my brief was to produce a new body of work for a solo show to be held the following summer. Regular visits to UCS for AA2A enabled me to develop an ambitious program of work which used particular architectural contexts throughout Ipswich, as a basis for studio practice. As the project progressed, I secured funding for a collaborative publication of images and three essays which explored the relationships between writing and architecture. Much of the photographic content of the book was made as a collaboration with students from the BA Fine Art and Photography courses at UCS. During AA2A, I also took part in a research colloquium at UCS where I delivered a paper discussing the architectural influences on my practice entitled: "Text-in-viscera: The sensuality of the orphaned cut inside painting"

The painting shown here; made during my AA2A time, was shortlisted for the John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize 2008, where it reached the penultimate round of 140 paintings taken from a total 3,222 submitted.

The publication "Fugitive Pieces" (ISBN 906688-44-22) is available to buy from my website.
