Project summary:

Having not had access to a ceramics workshop for a while AA2A has given me the opportunity to establish fresh directions for my work. I have always endeavored to create ceramics that express the different qualities and limitations of the materials and techniques that I am using. The pieces produced usually have dual components as starting points, an idea for design or form that has inherent and challenging technical problems, coupled with specific effects that materials and techniques may offer, that challenge my skills and knowledge, and spark off new ideas. Basically, is this possible, and can the materials/techniques allow me to do it.

The Cleveland College of Art and Design offered a flexible use of workshop space, access to all the resources and tools that I needed to enable me to experiment, and more important giving me the luxury of making mistakes, very appropriate for the way that I work.

My time spent at the college has given me the starting points for new work that I can refine and develop further once I have established a new workshop.

I would highly recommend AA2A to any artist or craftsperson who wishes to develop their work in new directions or those who are returning to their work after a period of absence.
