Previous AA2A Artist

Catherine Ball

Year:
2007-08
Project summary:

My work combines ceramics with textiles. I manipulate the clay by stitching into it to form the decoration of my piece.

The AA2A scheme enabled me to build a range of larger scale pieces of work which I felt before I was lacking. Using the slip casting faculties made it possible for these larger pieces to be easily reproduced. I gained experience in the technique of sledging which proved valuable when creating my large floor standing vase, this will help provide a focal point at exhibitions and fairs that I have planned for the future.

I was able to experiment and take risks when developing my work as they were a wide range for recourses at hand. Using Parian casting slip and developing stains within my glazes became valuable in providing simple and effective chances within the body of my work.

The college provided excellent facilities and technical support and was a stimulating environment to produce new work. I would recommend the scheme to any practising artist.
