Previous AA2A Artist

Carolynn Aitken

Year:
2009-10
Project summary:

I would like the opportunity to explore and experiment the use, effectiveness and technology of digital fabric printing and combine it with traditional textile screen printing, in order to extend my understanding of both these processes together. I would also like the opportunity to extend my knowledge of fabric use, including recycled fabric and product development. The AA2A scheme will not only help channel and focus my design ideas, whilst developing them creatively, but it will also let me gain experience in a professional, studio based setting.

Along with increased understanding of the digital fabric printing process, my aim is to build and develop my skills as a designer. I feel I will enjoy the studio based, creative environment, which I believe increases my productivity and helps focus my ideas, whilst adding to my continued professional development as a creative practitioner. I also think it is valuable to be working alongside other artists/designers who will be resident in the university, in order to share professional practice and inspire and support each other in our work.
