Project summary:

The Artists Access to Art Colleges scheme allows me access to equipment and facilities that I don’t have at home. Fabrics, large format digital printers and print rooms are all things that enable me to advance my designs and practical skills further, to be able to work within the college environment alongside the students is an inspiring and a valuable learning experience.

I aim to develop my collection titled Floral Floral, Floral Floral Collection is based around exotic florals and oversized blooms, combined with wild colour combinations and twisted botanicals. I use my own photographic imagery and manipulate it using photoshop and combine with hand rendered imagery.

With access to the art college facilities I aim to develop the collection further experimenting with a combination of screen printing and digital print, to sample on a variety of fabrics and papers.

Working from home and using commercial print companies is very expensive and the cost of sampling and experimenting is not always feasible when you are starting up as a designer. During my degree I often found that some of the best design work came from experimentation and trial and error, something that I am unable to achieve working in my home studio without the facilities, therefore on occasions I’ve been frustrated and unable to develop an idea/colourway or design as far as I would like. With the great facilities at CCAD I feel I could pursue ideas further, sample and experiment with fabrics and colourways , all of which will add additional dimensions and a greater originality to my design work.

Within the project I aim to produce a number of surface pattern designs to compliment my existing designs within the Floral Floral Collection. Working on digitally printed fabrics to produce a collection of interior products such as cushions and lampshades and digitally printed wallpaper designs.
