Through access to facilities, in particular wood construction equipment, this opportunity will allow me to realise ideas which currently exist only in sketch form. The designated time and space for developing my work will be beneficial to my practice, as will the opportunity to converse with other artists and students.

I will use this time and space to engage fully with my project, and to produce a resolved body of work as a result of my research. Overall I hope that taking part in AA2A will give an injection of energy into my practice and act as a spring board into the next chapter.

My work is an exploration of the value and legacy of the “sublime’’ in visual art. Rooted in the formulae and endeavours of the 18thC Romantic movement, themes and visual devices emblematic of vernacular painting from that period in art history are appropriated to create new works.

A cognitive approach to the media I work with is adopted, deconstructing and reconfiguring plastics, building materials, the “found object” and household detritus. Paradox is evident in work that is fabricated by the artist’s hand but with the use of prosaic mass-produced materials associated with neither beauty nor aesthetics. These materials are invested with a renewed purpose in an effort to re-evaluate their original source and assimilation into new work.

My practice is concerned with the interaction between traditional crafts and contemporary design process; I highly value the traditional hand crafts, and believe that these can be explored and reinvented in the contemporary context using cutting edge techniques.

My work is done using a combination of techniques such as laser cutting and embossing. AA2A is an excellent opportunity; I use Loughborough University's equipments and facilities to develop new design ideas which form the foundation for creating a new series of comprehensive, resolved textile pieces. Having access to the facilities means a lot as it gives me the opportunity to develop my work. My aim is to design and make a new body of work in response to architectural spaces; this is an exciting step for me as it means I can take my work to the next level in terms of scale and content and application.

The aim would be to create a coherent body of prints, paintings, photographs and studies of the college and its working day, using everything that could be visually workable.

Georgia Peskett 2011

I'm primarily interested in issues around interaction: how we interact with spaces and landscapes; how we interact with each other; and how we interact with objects. Typically I will instigate a starting point and a mechanism to support exploration and criticism.

My practice encompasses locative and digital media, walking, performative actions in public spaces (in turn including pervasive games), installation, physical computing and collaboration.  I rarely work in isolation, preferring instead to work in response to a particular location, context or conversation.

I co-founded BARG (pervasive games network) and fizzPOP (hackspace - creative use of technology) to feed the ecosystem within which I operate, working extensively to establish networks, develop audiences and manage events.

Work is currently being guided by the (evolving) Splacist manifesto.

Previous work has explored themes of imperfections and concealment, often producing multiples of a form to communicate a concept. Fragility has been explored through thinness of form, cracks, crevices and hollows.

My proposal for this residency moves to porcelain. I aim to explore porcelain through slip casting and the distortion of forms. Conveying fragility is key to my work.

I am drawn to pushing and molding forms to sculpt their contours when they are in fluid state; with glass when it is molten, and with porcelain slip through casting.

I intend to explore surface manipulation and light interaction - and the relationship this has upon the aesthetics of sculptural porcelain forms.

Drawn to the purity of form in the natural colour found in porcelain, I aim to investigate how light passes through this, or surface decoration, to embody an ethereal quality.

My work completed to date has crossed boundaries within the disciplines of installation and sculpture with work being exhibited on the floor, on plinths, suspended, or installed on walls.
