Brief description: My project for the AA2A scheme involves developing a site specific architectural glass artwork to be sited in the magnificent Victorian conservatory window within Woodend Creative Workspace (http://www.woodendcreative.co.uk/). The installation is part of a solo exhibition which will also include glass wall panels and paper based artworks, opening on 17th February during Coastival – a cross disciplinary arts festival in Scarborough. I will be developing ideas and concepts for the piece, conducting experiments and tests, and then creating the final artwork. Whilst the nature of the piece is still very fluid, I expect the artwork to use predominantly float glass with sandblasting and screen-printed elements. There may also be some water-jet cutting, kiln-forming and lamp-working involved. I expect to use the department’s project space to test out installation possibilities.

About me:

Now specialising in architectural glass, I originally trained in fine art, and retain these sensibilities within all areas of my current practice. I design and make architectural glass to commission for a wide variety of applications and also undertake public art commissions, often in collaboration with other artists and designers. Parallel to my commissioned work I continue my personal art practice following a creative train of ideas, making work for gallery, external and site specific locations.

 

I have 18 years experience in arts management and education. This includes delivering artist workshops and projects in formal and informal educational settings; community arts management; audience development consultancy; project management in art galleries and curatorial work. 

 

I was awarded a Masters degree in Glass (Distinction) in July 2009. This MA study expanded my repertoire of techniques and skills base as well as developing my work from an intellectual and critical perspective.
