I am particularly interested in undertaking the AA2A Scheme at Liverpool Hope University because i am looking to evolve several bodies of work that have developed within my practice recently, with a higher level of accomplishment.

I make sculpture using a variety of found and redundant materials, particularly aspects of furniture, that are pared down into increasingly minimal works that often balance or are propped precariously. More recently very specific materials such as cheap metal earings and plastic bangles have begun to be incorporated into the work, resulting in sculptural objects that mutably teeter on the edges of two and three dimensions, attempting to question what it is to be an object in the world and how these objects come to exist as sculpture.

The opportunity to use the resources and facilities at Hope University over an elongated period of time will be of enormous benefit in assisting in the development of my practice as a whole, particularly helping achieve a far higher level of finish and endurance within individual bespoke works.

I currently have a particular interest in techniques such as brazing, welding, dipping and coating manipulated objects, tampering with the poetics of the found form, in both a visual and ‘physical’ way; that is, altering how an object comes to look, or be seen alongside how it physically exists or happens to be. Materials such as porcelain and clay slips, cement and concrete can permanently transform an object, and i want to get to grips with and thouroughly examine the use of materials such as these within my practice whilst on the AA2A scheme.
