About me:
I assemble site specific, temporary installations from a collection of mass produced objects and things found at the site of making, which consider compartmentalisation of space and the continuous movement of objects within. Works often include small-scale, simple gestures as a way of reassessing our sense of proportion to the universe and attempts to achieve something on a basic, grounding level. I often use film as a means of solidifying the temporary arrangements in an attempt to create a final product without making new objects. I am interested in another symptom of today’s culture which relies on documentation to validate the original event. Much of my current work includes a layer of documentation presented as the work, so that events are filmed and projected back onto the site where they occurred. The place of documentation within the work poses an interesting question for me when considering documentation of this work which already includes a record of the original. Because of this, works which exist as films on my website for example, sit under the guise of being works, rather than merely documentation. I would like to use the AA2A opportunity to form printed material which would act in a similar way, so both documenting the work and existing as work in its own right. I would like to produce a number of artist books which would be documentation of works that also function as a portfolio in interview/proposal scenarios. I will make flip books taken from film stills and a general catalogue of documentation.
I see this as an opportunity to both gain access to equipment which will help my overall practice and professionalism, resulting in artist books, whilst also using the access to lectures and library to further the development of research and initiating new work.
