Brief description: I like to be experimental with printmaking media and combine working in my studio with teaching art courses at the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal

Influences: Ornulph Opdal's monotypes of creatures hauled from the depths of the Atlantic. Helen Frankenthaler's acrylic washes poured onto canvas forming transparent layers of colour.

Skills: I trained in the painterly tradition at Lancaster university and gained a BA and an MA in Fine Art. I went on to teach on the Art Degree course. I was coordinator of Lancaster's art summer school for gifted and talented pupils

About me:

I work with the monoprint medium because it encourages expressive and painterly mark making. I draw and paint directly onto the plate surface with oil based inks, using brushes, sticks, rags and any implements to hand gradually building a textured surface. I drew inspiration from working with biologists at the Lancaster Environment Centre and was given access to laser imaging facilities which inspired me to make work based on microscopic plant structures. I continue to be experimental in my use of processes, drawing on experience of environment and place and sketching directly from nature.

I have exhibited widely: Printfest, Ulverston, Royal West of England Academy, Sefton Open, Liverpool, University of Central Lancashire, Atrium Gallery, Lancaster university, John Moores School of Art and Design, Liverpool.

Forthcoming Exhibitions:

I will be exhibiting work with two other Green Door artists in a three person show at Sizergh Barn, Kendal from July - September 2013 (dates tbc).

I exhibit work as member of Impress Originals, a group of independent printmakers, passionate about printmaking, who met while working in the print studio at the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal.

We have a forthcoming exhibition Print Explosion at the Upfront Gallery, Unthank, Penrith, South Lakes. Commencing 1st October - 10th November 2013.

Previous Exhibitions:

The Impress Originals last exhibition was shown at the Heron Theatre in Beetham, April to May 2012.

Exhibited work in the Cumbrain Colourists' Exhibition at No 15 Cafe Gallery in Penrith from 29th October 2012 - 3rd February 2013.

The Cumbrian Colourists' Exhibition features vibrant paintings and prints by artists Ann Marie Foster, Deborah Windsor and Dorothy Ramsay. The Cumbrian landscape, its flora and fauna provides inspiration for works that are fresh and contemporary. I focus on painterly monoprints that trace delicate plant structures normally invisible to the human eye, resulting in intriguing images fused with colour.
