My aim would be to expand and develop my mixed media approach to creating artwork by combining printmaking with painting, drawing, collage and stitch. I want to experiment with printing on different surfaces, such as fabric, collaged backgrounds as well as different papers. Then I would like to ‘play around’ with altering the printed image by manipulating, distressing, breaking down, repairing, deconstructing and reassembling just to see how far I can move the image on.

I regularly work in small sketchbooks and I would like to enlarge some of my small drawings through screen printing.

I look forward to working alongside other creative people and interacting with fellow artists who are working across a range of disciplines.

I make paper plants and accessories using twigs and scrap paper such as food packages, shopping bags, wrapping paper, books, envelopes, etc that I find in the street. Originally paper was made from wood. After having been read or otherwise served their own purpose, they are thrown away. My idea is that from scrap paper new life once again begins when I transform them into flower blossoms. In this way, my work represents nature's amazing ability to regenerate. By turning recycling into an object of beauty I want raise awareness about conservation issues and make people think more about how important recycling is for our future.

I am still on the way to develop my work. To research materials and making test pieces are my main purpose to apply for AA2A programme. By experimenting and play with materials, I would get new ideas and it would leads to develop my work as well. Not only external factors but also understanding the inner surface of the materials and I will try to create and improve the quality of 100% hand-made, 100% original pieces to reach professional high standard.

Her work looks at thoughts and memories that co-exist together living in a bleak, uneasy cohesion. Using found and discarded materials, combined with references from forgotten girls comics she is able to manipulate the significance of her thoughts creating new meaning with a narrative text. Teetering on collapse her work is gently pinned or placed together and its fragile existence may disintegrate at any time.

I plan to use the time and space at the college to make large scale appliques which I don't feel I have the space to make at my home studio. Including a weatherproof one that I can display outside. I would also love to experiment with different ways of printing. I already make everything in multiple so this seems like a logical progression for me. I have an idea of screenprinted posters for fictional events.

I am currently working on an interactive project about language. The research for the project is centered around psychological experiments relating to the positive / negative perception of individual words. I have been carrying out a survey which I plan to involve the college students in. Upon completion I can begin to make work that responds to the statistical data. The next stage will to make interactive sculpures that can be intalled in public places.

The residency will give me an opportunity to consolidate my current practice. Working in the college will provide me with critical discourse, and access to facilities which will enable me to make more ambitious work.

I am interested in making work that encourages the participation of the viewer. Where the work is completed through the physical interaction with its audience. I am keen to develop this relational aspect of my work. The community college helped me grow creatively, and got me to where I am today. If I could help the students or inspire them that would be really rewarding.

I have also taken inspiration from stories, poems and songs, looking to present my own response to abstract images, and during my residency I would like to undertake an investigation into the poems of W.H. Auden.

Phil makes primarily autonomous aesthetic objects derived from mathematical patterns discernible in both natural and artificial forms in the world at large.

I intend to create a coherent body of work during this residency, drawing on sacred geometry and simple (or complex) systems. I find that my practice evolves naturally as it progresses, building on what has gone before, and in response to a constant dialectic which is available in the learning environment. As I see it, I can learn from anyone be they staff, students, youthful and mature. Ideally the people I come into contact with during my time at the Community College will be able to learn something from me too. There is the potential to approach making in ways which none of us would think of or attempt as isolated artists.

I also use photography, illustration, video and sound recording. With these techniques, I tend to create installations, sculptures, short films and artist books.

I used my AA2A residency to learn techniques that I did not have the chance to work with during my fine art studies. I used the ceramic workshop, did silkscreen prints on glass and worked in the wood and metal workshop. The best experience was meeting other people at the department and having interesting conversations with them. It was exciting to exchange ideas, believes and visions about contemporary art with students and staff. My ceramic and glass masks reflect upon this experience. They represent individuals expressing themselves and at the same time engaging with the person in front of them.
