The start

I hate making a start to anything like this. I quite often look back to the start of blogs I read to see if they struggle too, and somehow their first post always seems to link into the rest of their content, perfectly, it flows nicely and there is no sense of the unknown at all. I'm not sure if thats what I'm after, but I'm sure one day looking back on this I will cringe!

I have just started as an AA2A resident artist at Plymouth Uni, I have had an induction into the scheme, and a tour of the amazing facilities at the Uni. Now It seems I'm free to start a project where there is very minimal guidelines and almost no sign of a brief. A fresh start? An opportunity to get away from persistent clients, tight briefs and a chance to do something for myself.

Where do I start? With just 13 days til an "introduction exhibition" where "the work shown can be in progress, resolved work, or whatever you think gives a snapshot of what your practice involves.", Even though it might be nice to show previous work, I have been thinking that this is a fresh start away from my everyday exercise. I want to show something that will give a glimpse into the project I will be spending the majority of my AA2A time on.

I would like to, (and this is something I have been thinking about for a quite a long time, with no real background research) take used and found objects from in and around plymouth, manipulate these objects and put them back in the place I found them. I would then like to document them as they turn back into just found and used objects.

I have a certain aesthetic in mind, I want to create a sculpture with the found objects that seen from most angles will look like nothing more than a found object but seen from one specific place will look more impressive. Its hard to explain. (see picture)

So thats the start.
