Where does art exist? In natural spaces that create cinematic escapism- all worthwhile especially if it’s thoughtful? Through participation with unpredictable probability in controlled accidental spaces with extinguished ends? Or in the emotional effort, pain of process and being judged?

There are no right answers, just different ways of working. It’s more important to be believable, to explore possibilities by testing rules to the limit even if it risks making mistakes. And maybe mistakes are just someone else’s opinion. At the end of the day, it’s my idea. But be careful what you wish for...

Talking about ideas- what inspires? Creativity is interpreting own ideas. Is that perfect or not? There’s a tension between these contradictions.

Doing something other people want is robotic, churning it out. Don’t like it being wrong because it’s different. But it’s ok if it’s wrong because it breaks rules, everyone is individual. Pick out the not obvious.

I can...

... express myself

... use my imagination

... see things in different light

... actually be bothered about something

... think

... discover new concepts

... dream

... experiment

... communicate ideas

... look more

... try new things

... be spontaneous

... create something new

... try different technique

... learn

... open up my mind to new things...

What is art? What can you achieve? What is cheating? Do we have to make it ourselves? What about designers? Do we have to know where it is going? Lots of questions to reflect on and maybe not even answer.

How we find our voice is critical to how we express our creativity. And how we perceive our arts practice is part of that. Is teaching creativity NOT creative? Is helping relationships develop and unfold NOT creative? Is the ephemeral NOT creative?

Limitations

How we produce the right effect is open to debate. Sometimes we go for perfection, sometimes that is too predictable and we prefer to keep mistakes. Even when working with a limited palette, we can challenge perceptions. Anyway, it’s all in the way we filter the marks, whether 2D or 3D. Sometimes we just know.

Pointless... dangerous... hidden. Starting with seemingly pointless ideas can lead to more ideas. Keep looking, keep checking. Different points of view, scale. Adding, taking away.

Reversed roles. Hold by hand, band holds the hand. What’s the status? Installation or jewellery?

It’s good to talk about what we already know. Hidden treasures.

Handmarks- touch and go

How do you see art? What’s the role of the accidental? It’s tricky when you can’t see, when it’s random. But can it ever be truly random? Making it up as you go along is not necessarily random. It takes a lot of considering, playing with patterns, seeing the value in the accidental, touching and going with it when it is successful for that moment.

Random, controlled, right, accurate, going wrong, accepting, discarding. And it all depends where you are looking from as to what you see.
