I am particularly interested in mixing traditional and digital media and text to create multi-layered canvases

etching - a new way of working

,

I went to a copper sulphate etching workshop  at ARU a couple of weeks ago, and am really excited about finding out more... I have now found out how to make a half-tone screen using Photoshop and am working on some of my photos and will use these as a start for the etchings... all new for me and have absolutely NO idea how these will turn out... but that is what it is all about.

I am also loving the photography contextual studies lectures on Friday mornings and although it is not necessarily "new" information, it is great to look at work of photographers who I have not seen before and to revisit some of the old favourites!

Another chance to visit my Retrospective on Sunday 13th between 12 - 5pm so please contact me if you want to come ...

week three at ARU

Spent some time in the photography dept yesterday, and met some of the students. An ex-student was giving a demonstration about using 5 x 4 cameras so I joined that, which was good. I took some black and white photos of the college and grave yard with my 5 x4 pinhole camera and am hoping to do some large prints on canvas, using a mixture of digital and non-digital techniques. Not sure of the theme, although doing something about the University's 100th anniverary still appeals. But also fell in love with the quality of polaroid 5 x 4 photos... gorgeous. And love the studio too... Managing two days a week at the moment and feeling much more relaxed about being there.. the bad news is that my best Nikon D200 is in the menders AGAIN after only having a major re-fit a couple of months ago.

week 2 at ARU

Enjoying the experience of being on the AA2A scheme - a bit like a jig-saw or perhaps snakes and ladders game so far... I am going in on Friday this week to make contact with the photography and digital media tutors and contextual studies... and to do join in with the mono-printing class. Hoping to get in touch with Martin Salisbury who is rumoured to have some old photos of the University - so Martin, if you read this... get in touch. Taking my camera in tomorrow - possibly my large format (5" x 4")  pin-hole camera if the weather is good. I want to buy some colour large format film and process it (or get it processed) then print it as a starting point... Busy getting my own retrospective/installation ready for November so juggling that, plus working with Arts and Minds charity  2 -3 days a week.

Is anybody out there?????
